Welcome to
Immanuel Church
We are
part of the Anglican Church and Members of the Evangelical
Alliance
and Faithworks
A New Chapter Begins Immanuel is a growing, dynamic
church centre dedicated to building relationships,
serving the community and
discovering God's plan for our lives. At our main weekly Sunday
Service
you can experience meaningful worship, encouraging talks,
friendly people and an enjoyable atmosphere. We are about to become a Bishop's Mission Order in
the Church of England which means we can develop new forms
of church whilst respecting Anglican traditions. We are
working to support a community project on a decommissioned NHS site where developers are building 700 homes over the
next 7 years. Graylingwell Chapel has been
disused for 11
years and it lies at the centre of this new development.
We are now focussed on creating a spiritual heart and
serving the community in ways that connect with people
where they are. If you would like to join us in moving
this vision forwards, call Steve and Sarah and find out
how you can be part of it!
Immanuel Church at Graylingwell Chapel is not a Parish
Church. In fact we are located in the Parish of St Paul's,
Chichester. But we are being given a special brief as a
"network church" and "missional community" to live out our
Christian faith in ways that connect with people in the
City of Chichester and beyond!
The Story So Far
Immanuel Church was born 14 years
ago when a group of people in Chichester started meeting
in someone's home. The church soon grew and felt God
calling them to work in Partnership with St Paul's Church
in the Winterbourne Road area of N.E. Chichester. Meeting
at St Michael's Hall in Summersdale Road, the church have
outgrown the facilities there and after a long period of
consultation and negotiation are moving into Graylingwell
Chapel to help create a vibrant new community base open to
all.
Food & Friendship
People visiting Immanuel
for the first time often comment on the warm welcome and sense
of family. We enjoy food and friendship and we take every
opportunity to share hospitality with people. We welcome
people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs. Anyone into the
arts will want to be part of Soul Cafe, a new initiative
starting October 10th at 6.30pm with Guest Interviews, Music, Arts
in a relaxed atmosphere. more
Street Parties
Twice each year we run
community Street Parties - "Summersdale Seaside Special" and
"Winterbourne Wonderland." A mix of free BBQ, Band, Children's
Activities and Special Events make for a great day out for all
the family and we have upwards of 200 people attending from
the community - these events have proven to be very popular. more
Conker Club
Parents & Toddlers
Meeting every Monday morning from
10.00 to 11.30am, parents and toddlers enjoy a lot of fun with
games, creative play, stories and refreshments in a relaxed
atmosphere.
Conker Club has been an important point of contact for parents
in the community and offers a valuable service.

Cafe Blue 11 -15's
(Wednesdays 7.00 to 8.30pm)
Cafe Blue is an open youth club
for 11 to 15 year olds and currently meets at St Michael's
Hall in Summersdale Road. There is a small subscription
charge.
A range of activities every week are organised by
Jon Robinson and Ben Harding more
Creative Arts
We are committed to the
development of the arts in the context of worship and
performance at Immanuel. We have a resident artist who often
paints during services. Our Ministers, Steve and Sarah
Flashman, have a media background in broadcasting, writing,
contemporary music, recording, contemporary dance and
performance poetry and are keen to encourage artistic
expression in the
life and work of the church. more
Prayer &
Reflection Prayer is
central and underpins all the work we do at Immanuel. We
believe in both dynamic intercessory prayer and reflective
quiet prayer with stillness. Life can be hectic and
stressful at times, so we are planning on preserving a
contemplative space in the Chapel as we develop the
refurbishment project over the next 18 months. We currently
meet every 1st and 3rd Sunday evening at 6.30 to 7.30pm for
prayer and reflection. more
Home Groups
We are developing a
network of Home Groups around the City that will reflect our
vision to become the "spiritual heart of Graylingwell,
Winterbourne and the communities in which God has placed us."
We meet in homes in a friendly non-threatening atmosphere and
talk about the things that matter to us. We often think about
the talk from the previous Sunday service using interactive
study resources and also have fun developing friendships and
socialising together. more
Community
Clean-Ups
Twice a year we visit
homes and gardens in our community to offer a helping hand by
disposing of rubbish, fixing things, cleaning things and
generally offering practical help to people who need it. We
keep an eye open for people in special need and try to offer
any support we can - without strings.
This is our way of demonstrating God's love without expecting
anything in return - apart from perhaps a nice
cup of tea and a slice of cake! more
International
Focus
We have a number of links
with people working overseas in Nigeria, Zambia, Bangladesh,
Ethiopia, Pakistan, India and Kenya. In 2009 we took a
workparty to help relocate a school for 500 slum kids in
Kibera, Nairobi. People from Immanuel have also visited
projects in Nigeria and Zambia over the last few months. Andy
Economides is a member of our church and he works through
Soteria Trust in an International Ministry.
